Cash for Clunkers Bill Favored by Senator Harry Reid

According to a Dow Jones Newwire article written by Corey Boles, the Cash for Clunkers bill is endorsed by Senator Harry Reid.  According to the Dow Jones release:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said he would like to move soon on a bill offering subsidies to people trading in old cars for newer, cleaner vehicles in a bid to stimulate auto sales.

The bill, dubbed “cash for clunkers,” would provide vouchers to people with heavier-polluting cars looking to trade them in for new cars.

A group of bipartisan senators is planning to introduce legislation this week creating the program, after House Democrats reached agreement last week on the outline of the concept.

Reid said that, ideally, he would like to attach the program to a war- funding bill the Senate is likely to vote on next week, but he said there are procedural issues in doing so.

He said he was looking at other pieces of legislation that could serve as a vehicle for the program.
