NHTSA Renames Cash for Clunkers CARS

The NHTSA has another new name for Cash for Clunkers, Car Allowance Rebate System, or CARS.  A new website, cars.gov was launched in an attempt to define the rules and provisions of the new program within 30 days.  The CARS program is slated to go into effect Late July.

The cars.gov website was set up for consumers to provide basic information on the Car Allowance Rebate System.  The CARS program is what teh House and Senate formerly referred to as the “Cash for Clunkers” bill.  Car dealers will also need to access the new website to register their participation in the CARS program.  Registration information has not be completed at the time of this release.

The #1 destination and most visited website for Cash for Clunkers information is http://www.cashforclunkersfacts.com , created and managed by the Pasch Consulting Group  (PCG).  According to Brian Pasch, CEO of PCG, the new website launched by the NHTSA will need to anwer many more questions than what is posted.  Pasch says, “Consumers are sending in hundreds of email questions every day and the range of questions show just how little clarity there is on the scope of the bill.” The most common question on most consumers’ minds, according to Pasch, is whether or not the government will adjust EPA estimates for older cars where the actual MPG today is nowhere near what shows on the government website.

“Many consumers indicated to us that the EPA estimates listed on fueleconomy.gov are not accurate estimates for what the experience every day. For much older cars, 10-20 years old,  consumers are complaining that the mileage estimates are outdated and inaccurate.  Every day wear and tear has decreased the fuel efficiency of these cars and consumers want to know if the government will take that into consideration when handing out vouchers,” said Pasch.

CashforClunkersFacts.com has been following the progress of the bill since its inception.  Consumers can visit the FAQ page for answers to the latest questions being emailed in to the site.  The page is located at http://www.cashforclunkersfacts.com/bill-faq
