This chart is an INFOGRAPHIC for cars only and not trucks.   We are working on a version for trucks since the rules are different from cars. The art department decided  that combining rules for cars and truck would make the chart too complicated.  Stay tuned.

I have an Audi TT Quattro 228hp Turbo with 80,000 miles, 2002 for trade or Clunker. Average mpg 23. I also have a 1973 Mercedes Benz 280SEL 4.5 Litre V-8, loaded, 195hp 10mpg, premium -which I hoped would also be a Clunker for Cash worth $4,500 in trade. My Mercedes Clunker cost me $5,000 at point of purchase and I can document $24,000 of mechanical work. I also have a 1992 Ford Aerostar, Eddie Bauer Edition 154,000 miles available for trade or Clunker. I would like to work a deal for a used ,2007 Mazda MX-5 from Coutesy Mazda from Philip Cisneros at Courtesy Mazda (two models available used MX-5 soft top (21,500 or MX-5 Hard Top folding SLK 320 Hard Top folding) or a Mercedes SLK 320 2001 Certified –Or is this only for 2009 or 2010 only

Clunker is 1987 Grand Wagoneer (11 MPG) – won’t trade for Lincoln MKZ getting 21 MPG. but will trade for Ford Taurus getting 22 MPG.
Seems that 21mpg -vs- 11mpg is +10mpg and I never understood that mileage had to double in order for clunker to qualify. Something doesn’t seem to be Kosher here?????

People need to read these complaints. All of the red tape and loopholes, etc. It’s NOTHING compared to what our health care will look like if that “plan” gets rammed through too quickly. It’s three o’clock a.m. and your chest is still hurting. You go to the E.R. and they find out that you have the Grand Prix with the 3.8 litre engine. What? The “list” says that it gets 19 mpg, not 18. Sorry! Next…

I finished suppling the dealer with the required documentation for the C for C transaction on July 27th and the dealer still has not gotten the voucher number from the government. I was the second one that the dealer had submitted and since then they have done a couple of hundred others. Many of which they have already received the ok for. I can’t figure if the dealer is pulling my chain and going to sell the car at a higher price or if the government is that screwed up. Neither would surprise me.

  7. Ming says:

I’m often suspicious of government programs, but Cash For Clunkers seems to be doing some good in these difficult economic times. Replacing an old gas guzzler with a new fuel-efficient car reduces air pollution, reduces dependence on foreign oil, and stimulates the auto industry (foreign and domestic) at a very appropriate time. I’d like to see a modest increase in the gas tax, to get even more old cars off the road. America does need to use less oil; Cash for Clunkers is a small step in the right direction.

Can someone do more than one CFC Deal? Dealers keep telling me no, but I can’t find anything official that confirms that. By the way, my first deal was great! No hassle, quick, easy!!!!

i am so pleased to inform you that my car is in good condition i want to trade my car for a 2009 sonata limitted

  10. Rachel says:

Does anyone know how long it takes the dealership to obtain the voucher number? Our dealer submitted the paperwork 3 days ago. We cannot take delivery until they receive that voucher number, and in the meantime we are without a vehicle (since they have the trade-in).

  11. Jeff says:

The dealers do not have to give you the scrap value + your rebate, they just have to inform you of what the scrap value of your car is. You don’t automatically get that on top of your rebate.

  12. Raymond says:

You left off a very important fact! The dealer has to give you the scrap value for your trade-in as well as the credit.

This is very important- you need to add it to your graphic!!!
