Gene Langan Volkswagen, a premier VW dealer serving West Hartford, partook in a recent Relay for Life event at the Riverfront Community Center earlier this June. Relay for Life is an overnight event that raises money for the American Cancer Society.

The event usually starts with the Survivor’s Lap, an inspirational moment where survivors and caregivers are asked to circle the track and celebrate them.  White luminaria bags are also lining the track, with photos or drawings in remembrance or in honor of someone who has been affected by cancer. Alongside these traditions there are various fun aspects added depending on the venue.

There were bands performing, plenty of food and great games for the kids to play as everyone stayed awake to raise money for a cure. They also had a super fun bounce house and raffles. A Survivor Dinner was also held in honor of those who have survived cancer.

Gene Langan Volkswagen provided a popcorn machine, a sand art station and a tent that included amazing vintage vehicles for attendees to look at. In preparation for the event, the dealership also conducted in-house funding-raising to make a cash donation to the event. They had 201 Participants and 40 teams involved with $30,241.00 raised.
