If you live in Chicago Illinois and would like to purchase a car or truck with a $3,500 or $4,500 Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS) credit, the program will be starting in late July.   The estimated start date is July 24th and Chicago residents can receive an email when the program officially starts by signing up for our consumer email alert list. CARS is the implementation of the Cash for Clunkers bill that was recently signed by President Obama. The NHTSA is responsible for implementing the program and registering car dealers. The official government website is http://cars.gov.

Qualify Your Chicago Clunker

There is only one website that is the official place to verify the EPA MPG ratings of your clunker: http://cars.gov. Go to this website to see if your car qualifies. If you need help understanding the EPA charts, click here. Once your car qualifies, you can call a local Chicago car dealer or we can assist you and have a dealer contact you.

If your car shows that it is getting more than 18 mpg COMBINED from the government website, your clunker does not qualify regardless if your actual gas mileage is under 18 mpg. Until further notice, the 18 mpg criteria is what the program will be using so we understand that some consumers may be disappointed.
